Really for what ever riding you plan to do get a hard tail:
1)Teaches you the right techniques
2)Get hell of a better quality parts for the price

Flat Pedals:
1)Get you used to riding a bike at speed on trails, jumps etc without the worry of being clipped to a bike
2)Wont require you do buy expensive shoes

Gears:
1)Lets you decide how you want your gears
2)Helps you with your fitness

yeh but if u plan 2 ride down hill u can have a hard tail but u should get a full sus cus its built stronger for down hill but hard tails rock ass
